This is a free practice site for the Life in the UK test — the exam you sit as part of applying for indefinite leave to remain or British citizenship.
Where the questions come from
The Home Office does not publish the real exam questions. Nobody has them, and any site claiming otherwise is not being straight with you.
The 404 questions here come from community practice papers of 24 questions each, written against the official handbook, Life in the United Kingdom: A Guide for New Residents (3rd edition). Each question carries the handbook chapter and section it was written from, and comes with an explanation of the answer. Questions that appear in more than one paper are merged, so you never see the same one twice in an exam.
The handbook itself is the actual source of truth, and the real test is drawn from it. Practising here is a good way to find out which parts of it you have not learned yet. It is not a replacement for reading it.
How the exams work
- Mock exam — 24 questions, 45 minutes, 18 correct to pass (75%). No feedback until you finish, and unanswered questions count as wrong. These are the real test’s rules.
- Practice — the same questions, untimed, with the correct answer and an explanation revealed as soon as you answer.
- By chapter — 24 questions drawn from one handbook chapter, for when you know which part is letting you down.
- Focus — weighted towards questions you have previously got wrong, and towards topics where your accuracy is lowest. It unlocks once you have answered enough questions for the weighting to mean anything.

Why this exists
I built this for myself. I had the Life in the UK test coming up, the free practice sites were mostly adverts wrapped around a hundred recycled questions, and the paid ones wanted money for something that is, at heart, a list of facts and a timer.
So I built the thing I actually wanted: the whole question bank, honest mock exams, and statistics good enough to tell me when I was ready. It worked. It seemed a waste to leave it running for an audience of one, so here it is.
It is free, and it stays free. There are no adverts, no premium tier, no trial that expires and nothing to buy. I am not trying to build a business here — it is a study aid that already exists and costs me very little to share. If you find it useful and want to chip in towards the hosting, there is a tip jar on Ko-fi, but it changes nothing about what you get.
What it isn’t
This site is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Home Office, GOV.UK, or any official body. Passing here does not guarantee passing the real test, and no result from this site has any official standing.
